Best VPN UK: what the providers print, and what UK buyers should read first
A British buyer reading a VPN price page is usually reading a dollar figure with a footnote about tax, and the footnote matters more than it looks. This page uses the same verified index as the rest of the site and adds the three things that change the sum in the UK: whether VAT sits on top of the printed figure, whether the provider keeps UK servers, and whether the renewal is printed in a period a monthly headline can be compared against.

What changes the sum for a UK buyer
- Check whether VAT is on top. Several providers print their price and then note that VAT may apply. Surfshark prints exactly that beside its intro total. Where a page says so, the figure in the table is the pre-tax figure the page printed, because that is what the page printed.
- Check the currency you will actually be charged in. This index is quoted in USD because that is what these pages print. A card charged in dollars can carry a conversion fee from the bank on top of both the price and the tax.
- Confirm UK servers are in the plan you are buying. Entry plans occasionally differ from the flagship on server access. The provider's own page, linked beside each figure, is where that is stated.
- Read the renewal before the term. The pattern does not change at the border: the headline buys a prepaid term and the renewal is a multiple of it.
What UK buyers are actually choosing between
The providers a British buyer meets first are the ones that advertise hardest, and they sit in the middle of this index on price rather than at either end. NordVPN prints $3.49 a month and renews at $139.08 a year; ExpressVPN prints $2.99 and renews at $99.95 a year. Both figures are quoted from their own pages above, and both are pre-tax.
Against those, the cheaper end of the table is genuinely cheaper and requires a longer commitment, and the flat-price end is more expensive per month and has no renewal cliff at all. There is no British-specific answer hiding in that; there is a British-specific sum, which is the printed figure plus VAT where the page says VAT applies.
Streaming, banking and the reason most UK buyers are here
A large share of UK VPN buying is people who want their own country's services to keep working while they are outside it, or a bank that objects to a foreign address. That is a server-location question rather than a price question, and it is answered on the provider's own page rather than in a price table.
What the table does answer is which of the providers that can do it are worth committing three years to. Start there, then check the location list on the provider's page before you pay.
Common questions
- Do I pay VAT on a VPN in the UK?
- Providers that charge UK VAT generally say so on the pricing page rather than including it in the headline. Surfshark prints 'VAT may apply' beside its intro total; the figures in this index are the figures the pages printed, before any tax the page adds.
- Which VPN is best for UK servers?
- Every provider in this index sells UK locations on its flagship plan. Whether the entry plan includes them is stated on the provider's own page, which is linked beside each price.
- Are the prices here in pounds?
- No. The index is quoted in USD because that is the currency these pages print. Your card may be charged in dollars with a conversion fee on top.
